Chael Sonnen Pleads Guilty to Money Laundering

Chael Sonnen, the UFC middleweight currently serving a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs, has pleaded guilty to money laundering related to mortgage fraud.
According to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office in the District of Oregon, Sonnen pleaded guilty Monday and will be sentenced on March 28. Sonnen could face up to 20 years in prison, but he is expected to cooperate as a witness against others involved in the mortgage fraud investigation, and so his sentence is likely to be considerably lighter.
Michelle Holman Kerin, the assistant U.S. attorney handling the case, told the Oregonian that Sonnen agreed to give up his Realtor's license and pay a $10,000 fine. The government is recommending Sonnen be sentenced to two years of probation.
"This office will continue to aggressively prosecute real estate professionals who committed the mortgage fraud that contributed to this country's economic downturn and wreaked havoc on our community's housing market," US Attorney Dwight Holton said in a statement. "We entrusted these professionals to honestly broker real estate transactions and instead, they defrauded lending institutions throughout the country and left financial ruin in their wake."
Sonnen has admitted that he submitted a false letter and sales agreement addendum involving payment to a plumbing company for repairs to a home that Sonnen knew were not actually going to be made.
A former Republican candidate for the state legislature, Sonnen dropped out of his race last year, citing a "legal issue." He also made cryptic references to problems with the federal government after he had his performance-enhancing drug suspension reduced from 12 months to six months.
After Sonnen's thrilling performance in a loss to UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in August, he was promised a rematch against Silva. But that rematch was put on hold when his drug test came back positive, and now Sonnen has another legal issue that could derail his career. There's no word yet on when (or if) the UFC plans to put Sonnen back into the Octagon.

UFC 128 – Chael Sonnen to return to action on March 19th aga
It appears the UFC have decided to hastily arrange one possible last fight for disgraced middleweight star, Chael Sonnen in the wake of federal charges against him, booking him to return to action at UFC 128 on March 19th in Newark, New Jersey against Yoshihiro Akiyama.
Sources close to the situation confirmed the news to MMAJunkie.com earlier today, with this being the first fight he’s taken following a six months suspension from the California State Athletic Commission after testing positive for banned substances.
Sonnen is coming off a fifth round submission defeat at the hands of current champion, Anderson Silva. When it appeared he had the fight and title in the bag after winning the previous four rounds, the Republican was caught in a triangle choke with one minute remaining and soon tapped out.
As for Akiyama, this could be his last chance to impress his bosses after suffering back to back losses to Chris Lebben and Michael Bisping inside the octagon. Prior to that he’d pulled off a rather unconvincing split decision win over Alan Belcher.

Phil Baroni axed by the UFC as expected, plans to keep on fi
Former PRIDE veteran, Phil Baroni has been axed as expected by the UFC following his disappointing first round knockout loss to former “Ultimate Fighter” cast member, Brad Tavares this past weekend at UFC 125 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to Versus.com, “The New York Bad Ass” received his walking papers in the past 24 hours after picking up back-to-back losses inside the octagon to Amir Sadollah and Tavares, as well as losing his last fight as part of the Strikeforce roster against Joe Riggs.
Baroni has indicated strongly that he wants to continue on in his fighting career despite the recent slump in form. First off he’ll have to serve a 60-day medical suspension for injuries sustained in Las Vegas.

UFC 129 – Benson Henderson vs. Mark Bocek slated for April 3
A lightweight bout between former WEC champion, Benson Henderson and talented submission specialist, Mark Bocek has been lined up to take place at UFC 129 on April 30th in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
A source close to the negotiations revealed the news to MMAJunkie.com, adding verbal agreements are in place on both sides.
Henderson had looked unbeatable in the WEC ranks after capturing the title last year, defeating the likes of Jamie Varner and Donald Cerrone to build a ten-fight winning streak. That run was brought to an end though when he lost via unanimous decision to Anthony Pettis just last month at WEC 53.
As for Bocek, he’ll be looking to continue his rise up the ranks and gain his fifth win in six fights including submission wins over lvin Robinson, David Bielkheden, Joe Brammer and Dustin Hazelett.

Brutta notizia:
Mi dà un pò di speranza quel "though an ENT doctor can clear him early" altrimenti per il rematch dovremmo aspettare fino ad agosto ed il povero Pettis dovrebbe star fermo per un annetto buono.Frankie Edgar: Suspended until July 1 due to nasal fracture, though an ENT doctor can clear him early; regardless, minimum suspension until Feb. 16 with no contact until Feb. 1
UFC 129 – Jake Shields say his new strategies are going to h
UFC welterweight number one contender, Jake Shields has been speaking about how he’s planning on approaching his upcoming fight with Georges St. Pierre at UFC 129 on April 30th in Toronto, explaining different strategies are going to give the ultra-talented Canadian something new to deal with on the night.
Speaking via Tapology.com, Shields said:
Shields is coming off a less than impressive performance against Martin Kampmann on his octagon debut, a fight he won via split decision on the night. It was his first cut to 170 pounds in some time after winning the Strikeforce middleweight crown.

Pazzo...
Speaking via Tapology.com, Shields said:
“I definitely feel that I’ll find a way to get him down and I think he’s going to try to get me down too. He’s a great wrestler and Jiu-Jitsu fighter as well, so I think this fight will definitely hit the ground. There are big differences between me and all of the other guys at 170-pounds. Koscheck shoots in a big blast double from outside and GSP had an answer for that. I have some different strategies and I’m going to try to come up with some new strategies because it is hard to get GSP to the ground. I have a feeling I’ll be able to get him down there with my style.”

Junior Dos Santos Doesn't Want To Wait, Needs To Get Paid Po
Junior Dos Santos had expected to get a UFC Heavyweight Title shot against Cain Velasquez in April but with a shoulder injury forcing Velasquez to ride the pine for up to 8 months, Dos Santos got left out in the cold when it comes to when his next fight will be.
The Brazilian talked about his situation with Sherdog.com and gave his thoughts on what will be next for him:
The Brazilian talked about his situation with Sherdog.com and gave his thoughts on what will be next for him:
"Of course, it would be amazing to face Velasquez at UFC ‘Rio’ in August, but I cannot stay away from the Octagon for a year just waiting for him to recover. I really think that the fairest thing to do would be for [UFC President] Dana [White] to give me the opportunity to fight for an interim belt. I’m 100 percent focused on getting this belt. I’m in the best moment of my career, training hard and working so hard to reach the fight of my life, and, suddenly, it’s postponed eight months. It’s definitely not fair. I’m already five months away from fighting. I can’t wait eight months. Fighting is my life, not only because I love to do that but because I need to fight for a living. I still don’t make money like the other top guys, so I really need to work."
