L'unico neo nella carriera di Werdum è stata la sconfitta da pollo contro JDS, un match che in quel momento non meritava e in cui ha avuto la sfortuna di trovarsi di fronte un avversario dalle potenzialità sconosciute, che di lì a poco sarebbe diventato il secondo fighter della divisione heavy UFC.

non si sa ancora, Coker vorrebbe ma c'è il problema che ogni incontro per il titolo, secondo la commissione atletica e le regole, deve essere di 5 round, quindi stanno pensando a come fare. poi bisogna vedere anche le volontà del divora cavalli

La cintura la dovrebbe vincere il vincitore del torneo e basta, altrimenti ogni volta hai un teoretico passaggio di cintura??

sono d'accordissimo anch'io sul fatto che secondo me il vincitore del torneo dovrebbe diventare il campione una volta vinta la finale. Anzi, io Overeem non l'avrei fatto manco partecipare al torneo, più che altro avrei fatto sì che il vincitore potesse sfidare Overeem in un classico match titolato da 5 round per la cintura dei pesi massimi.

E' inutile che si citano le GRANDI vittorie al di fuori delle MMA Pro. Valgono un pò quanto i titoli NFL di altri atleti.

Concordo, purtroppo, sull'onesto mestierante in quanto, fino all'approdo in SF, a Fabricio è sempre mancato il colpo del campione.

Nonostante quello che si vuole dire, è entrato in UFC con una sconfitta (con un signor Arloski, sia chiaro) e dopo due vittorie convincenti e (probabilmente) ad un passo dalla shot, si è fatto finalizzare nel primo round da un (allora) sconosciuto JDS. Sfortuna? Probabile.
Ma Werdum nelle mma è ricordato, ad oggi, per 2 stint non eccezionali:

Pride 4-2, (2 sconfitte una con Kharitov e l'altro con Nog al GP) e UFC 2-2. Totale 6 vittorie e 4 sconfitte... non proprio un ruolino da Campione ai massimi livelli.

Sicuramente lo stint con la SF è quello che gli sta dando miglior splendore considerate le 3 vittorie consecutive (cosa che non accadeva dal lontano 2005 eh!!!) e soprattutto che una di queste è contro l'imperatore. La vittoria contro Ubereem sarebbe il top della carriera (4 vittorie consecutive, sconfiggendo Fedor e poi titolo!!!).

Scott Coker confirms Alistair Overeem will put his title on the line at every stage of the heavyweight tournament

Strikeforce CEO, Scott Coker has confirmed that the promotions heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem will indeed put his title on the line against Fabricio Werdum in the quarter-final match in the upcoming tournament, with the winner of that fight set to defend the belt in the semi-finals and so on.

Speaking via MMAWeekly.com, Coker said:

“It’ll be four nights over a period of eight months, then we’ll have one champion. The goal is to have Alistair put up his belt against Fabricio Werdum. If Werdum wins, then he will have to put up the belt, but at the end, you will have one champion.”

“Alistair wanted to be in the tournament. He asked me in Japan when I was there for Dream, after he knocked out (Todd) Duffee. He said, ‘Scott, I want to fight Fabricio Werdum. I’m gonna avenge all the people that beat me early in my career and he’s at the top of my list.’”

“I’ve been saying for the last six months, Strikeforce has the best heavyweight division in the world now, why not let these guys go fight each other. It’s gonna be a great time not only for fight fans, but for mixed martial arts as an industry.”

Overeem would have a legit chance of being considered the top heavyweight on the planet if he blew through say Fabricio Werdum, Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett to win the tournament this year. 

La parte che ho messo in CODE comunque è la realtà. Ho sempre parlato male del superdopato Overeem, ma se vince contro quei 3, è il miglio HW in circolazione a mani basse. Anche perchè li incontra un altro grande esperto di doping come Barnett...

Junior dos Santos disappointed the UFC won’t commission an interim heavyweight title

UFC heavyweight number one contender, Junior dos Santos has been speaking about his frustration at the news the Las Vegas based promotion won’t introduce an interim heavyweight title in the wake of the injury and lengthy layoff facing current champion, Cain Velasquez.

Speaking via Tatame Magazine, “Cigano” said:

“I was calm when I read a report explaining how it [Cain Velasquez’s] injury had happened. That would be the fight of my life – and it will be, because if God wants, it’ll happen. Now its time to wait and see what UFC has for me.”

“In the fight world, to make a little more, you have to be a legend as Wanderlei Silva or Rodrigo Nogueira or you have to be the champion and today I am neither one nor another but my objective is to be [the champion].”

“Looking on the positive site, it’s good because I will train more wrestling and jiu-jitsu to be able to surprise him but now I have to concern myself with the next adversary and I hope they [UFC] announce it soon.”

The Brazilian heavy hitter now awaits an announcement on who he’ll face next inside the octagon and will be somewhat surprised by the news that potential opponent and former champion, Frank Mir will take on Roy Nelson in May. Perhaps we’ll see him return to action against the last man to hold an interim title in the division, Shane Carwin.
