Rileggevo un vecchio Observer e ho trovato una cosa assurda che avevo rimosso.
WWE Over the Limit, 23 maggio 2010. La WWE si rese conto IL GIORNO DELL'EVENTO che il 23 maggio era proprio l'anniversario della morte di Owen Hart avvenuta a... WWF Over the Edge. Questo portò al "panico" nel backstage, ma chiaramente la frittata ormai era fatta.
Al tempo ricordo che trovai la cosa davvero assurda: nessuno in una compagnia dal valore di quasi 2 miliardi di dollari aveva pensato a questa cosa nelle settimane precedenti allo show. Boh.
Comunque, tanto per, riporto i risultati del PPV e non mi stupisco del mio quasi totale allontanamento dal prodotto in quegli anni:

Boh, sempre in quell'Observer c'era un discorsino sulla gestione del sangue in WWE visto che nel PPV creò diversi problemi. Son tutti fatti arcinoti, ma lo posto comunque ché è un argomento che interessa molti, apparentemente:

Another issue with the show was the new rule on blood. Largely due to business deals, most notably with Mattel, on the guise they were going to keep the company out of controversy, they no longer want blood on television. Even when airing old tapes on the nostalgia shows, the idea is to eliminate airing of bloody matches from the past as much as possible. But as the saying goes, it’s not ballet and things happen. Punk busted his head in his match with Mysterio, either from cracking his head on a metal piece of the barricade around the ring, or being caught with Mysterio’s knee brace. This led to an awkward match stoppage. Punk threw Mysterio to the floor, giving him time to sell, so it didn’t look bad. But the trainer trying to stop the cut took longer than expected. It was killing the match and the crowd had turned on it when Punk called his own audible and attacked Mysterio with enough fervor to get the crowd back into the match. To me, it still hurt the match, but Punk did win management points for his effort in switching to fourth gear when needed to get the crowd back.
A similar situation happened in the Cena vs. Batista match when Cena’s forehead was split open after being powerslammed through a table. The treatment of Cena was about to turn the crowd on the match when Batista figured it was time to resume the match.
It was bad enough that when McIntyre suffered a small cut on his elbow, the decision was to shoot so tight on his face to make sure the elbow didn’t get in the picture.
A lot of people, citing the history of WWE, because Vince McMahon’s views on blood in wrestling have changed 180 degrees over-and-over again over the past 25 years, figure this is a phase, and blame it on Linda McMahon running for office. But this is more based on agreements regarding the product that have been made to attract a higher class of sponsors. If the company’s popularity goes down, yes, they would make a change if it was needed to keep it from falling fast. But it’s not as simple as people think it is. Linda McMahon winning or losing the election is not going to have any bearing. Most likely these rules are in effect until either the Mattel license contract runs its course, which is many years from now, or another company with a wilder style cuts into WWE’s popularity. Given the economic realities of the industry today, it’s close to impossible for that to happen.

Stavo ripescando qualche hardcore match di Mick Foley e mi è venuta una domanda...ma le puntine che vengono usate nei match sono puntine vere e proprie o hanno la punta piegata? Perchè io optavo per la seconda ma ho visto che comunque le stesse rimanevano attaccate al corpo e si notavano pure i segni del bump. Se fossero vere farebbero malissimo

Sono vere. Il wrestling non è finto, è coreografato, le puntine fanno meno male di una sediata in testa, le sediate c'è un modo per itrarle, etcetcetc

Qualche giorno fa ho visto il documentario sulla AWA della WWE sul network. La domanda è la solita per i documentari WWE, quanto è accurato e attendibile, visto che loro non si esimano a raccontare la storia dal loro punto di vista? Che giudizio date in questo senso a questo documentario?

C'è un documentario/intervista, sul tubo, a Nick Mondo {Mattew Burns}, dove racconta quanto sia doloroso prendersi un tagliaerba sul petto e tanti altri aneddoti a tal proposito.
Credo si chiami "Unscarred".
