The McMahons (carrying a ladder) and the some of the Corporate Ministry open the show. Vince McMahon explains that the Corporate Ministry is fine. There is some friction to expect in a large organization such as theirs, but ultimately Triple H and Undertaker are on the same page. However for Big Bossman, he needs a little tough love so he will face Viscera and Mideon tonight. Vince also promises that Steve Austin will be licking the McMahon boots tomorrow night. Shane McMahon announced that "McMahon 6:32 says payback's a bitch!"

They are interrupted by Shawn Michaels. He reminds them that he's the WWF Commissioner. Michaels states that since Vince feels so good that he could fight all night. He's going to book a warm-up match against Ken Shamrock. Vince tries to get out of it, but Michaels says that he has the power to book McMahon in any match unless he can come up with a replacement. Vince offers Viscera or Mideon, but Michaels notes that they are already booked against Bossman. Out of options, Vince says Shane McMahon will face Shamrock on Heat.

In the parking garage, The Rock arrives and fails to tip his valet.

In a dressing room, Vince rants at Shane McMahon, Pete Gas, and Rodney.

Edge and Christian of the Brood faced the Hardy Boyz, but the match was ruled a no contest after the Acolytes attacked both teams. Afterwards Bradshaw addresses Billy Gunn and that he wants his stolen property (WWF Tag Team Title) back.

In a dressing room, Shane laments his situation to the Mean Street Posse.

In a handicap match Big Bossman holds his own against Mideon and Viscera, but Mideon pins him after hitting him with the WWF European Championship. After the match, Mideon and Viscera start attacking Big Bossman, but D-Lo Brown and Mark Henry make the save.

In a hallway area, Jesse James is walking towards the ring. In another area, Chyna and Triple H are discussing something without sound.

Jerry Lawler welcomes Jesse James in the ring for an interview. He asks him about Chyna, his first round opponent in the King of the Ring tournament. Dogg says that Chyna won't be able to sneak up on him and that he will give her 3 minutes to do her thing before he retaliates. Chyna & Triple H comes to the ring and assault Road Dogg. X-Pac runs down and makes the save.

In a dressing room, Ken Shamrock paces.

Ken Shamrock faced Shane McMahon, but the match was cut short by Steve Blackman who attacked Shamrock with a kendo stick.

Afterwards Shamrock is shown spitting up blood and refuses medical attention. Elsewhere, Blackman is shown calmly leaving the building.

The Rock enter the ring and addresses the Undertaker. He explains that he's not impressed by the Undertaker and his tattoos. In fact he will give him two new tattoos on his ass. The first is the brahma bull, the second says the Rock beat his ass. On the Titantron, the Undertaker responds that he's not impressed and he will defeat him. Then he lights the hung Brahma Bull symbol on fire.

C'è qualche possibilità che il thread venga ripreso? Era comunque interessante a mio avviso, c'era qualche discussione, ed è venuto fuori anche qualche aneddoto a me sconosciuto mentre leggevo gli show, inoltre Mannu era un ottimo poster a mio parere.

Io sono partito da Monday Night Raw 01/01/96 ormai 3 anni fà credo, proprio in questo periodo e devo essere fermo dalla scorsa estate proprio a KOTR '99.

Anche a me il 99 non mi prende tantissimo, analizzato solo bene bene il 98 mentre totalmente estraneo degli show 2000/2001

King of the Ring '99, peggior evento dell'anno a mani basse (una versione lunga di KOTR '95, azzarderei). Perché "Heroes of Wrestling" non esiste, vero? Vero?!

I momenti più 'alti' della serata son Hardy/E&C (primo scontro in PPV tra i due team, carino ma ovviamente il capolavoro sarà quello di "No Mercy"), Taker/Rocky (che si prende comunque na sufficienza risicata) e il main event, vedere Austin che mena Vince è sempre un piacere (ma decisamente troppo lungo).
Taker/Rocky che tra l'altro COMINCIA overbookato, qui Russo supera ogni inibizione. Taker stende l'arbitro random prima che suoni la campana, Rocky colpisce con la Rock Bottom ma arriva Bearer a tirare fuori il nuovo arbitro costandogli la vittoria. Tutto questo nel primo minuto. Poi va beh alla fine abbiamo un altro ref bump, Bearer che tira fuori la bottiglietta dell'etere (lo sappiamo perché c'è scritto ETERE a lettere maiuscole come nei cartoni animati della Looney Tunes) e ovviamente il run-in di Triple H, non sarebbe il '99 senza un run-in finale.

Per il resto... i match del torneo sono tutti insufficienti/inutili, a parte le discutibili scelte di booking. Tipo Billy Gunn vincitore, che è il più risibile insieme a Mabel, ma volevano renderlo main eventer a tutti i costi. Menomale che rinsaviscono in un paio di mesi, gli daranno Rocky a Summerslam e poi tornerà a sparire nel midcarding. Col senno di poi, tuttavia, è la scelta più ovvia: la maggior parte dei midcarder 'importanti' del '99 o lasceranno la compagnia o verranno depushati prima di KOTR '00. Quelli che saranno importanti nel 2000, invece (tipo Jericho, Angle, Rikishi) non hanno nemmeno debuttato ancora. A 'sto punto, avrei fatto vincere HHH per il secondo anno consecutivo prima del push definitivo per il Titolo del Mondo. Ma no ci dovevi mettere Chyna, a cui nel '99 danno praticamente pure il culo, compresa quella vittoria alle Series su *spoiler* che ripensandoci mi fa bestemmiare ancora.
Che poi Chyna/Road Dogg non è manco tanto brutto a dire il vero, ma dal punto di vista del booking è totalmente sbagliato. Chyna non può fare l'heel quando va contro gli uomini, così danneggi solo l'avversario. Il bello è vederla umiliare gli heel, tipo Jarrett (che io adoro ma è un altro discorso), invece qua domina un face amato dal pubblico, che infatti non sa come reagire. E le danno pure 13 minuti (:facepalm:), praticamente il match più lungo del torneo. Menomale che alla fine abbiamo il giusto vincitore.
X-Pac/Road Dogg è troppo breve per essere giudicato, ma in quei 3 minuti fanno vedere buone cose. Sarebbe stato più logico dare 13 minuti a loro e 3 minuti a Chyna, ma credo che Russo a questo punto abbia totalmente dimenticato cosa sia la logica.
La finale tra X-Pac e Gunn è il match più decente del torneo, con il primo che fa la maggior parte del lavoro e vende bene l'infortunio al collo, anche se bisogna dare merito a Mr. Ass per la Fameasser dalla terza corda, che risulta abbastanza d'impatto.

Match più disagiato della serata: Big Show vs. Kane. Diobò, 6 minuti e mezzo di nulla. Anzi, dopo il ref bump accade qualcosa: Kane che passa il tempo a prendere Show per il collo - a caso - e alla fine lo colpisce con una sedia, nonostante sia face. Inoltre, Show dovrebbe essere un mostro inarrestabile ma non esce nemmeno dal conteggio, totalizzando un record di 3 sconfitte e 0 vittorie in PPV dal debutto (+ la figura barbina nel giorno stesso del debutto). Way to go.

Comunque di KOTR che valga la pena di recuperare davvero ti direi nulla... ma comunque vediti Hardy/Brood, Taker/Rock, Gunn/X-Pac (che tanto dura 5 minuti) e Austin/McMahon.

Eccolo. Hai avuto il raffreddore, Mannu, in questi mesi ?
Il 1999 è stato l' anno in cui è nata mia figlia e ho avuto la prima connessione internet casalinga : riprendevo a vedere la WWF dopo Survivor Series 1994.
Lo rivivo volentieri.
