There appear to be some legal issues regarding Andrade El Idolo appearing on AEW TV following his WWE departure.
Just over a month ago, it emerged that Andrade had been fired by WWE over disciplinary issues.
Just a couple of weeks later, he returned to AEW on the October 1 episode of Dynamite by attacking Kenny Omega and joining the Don Callis Family.
However, he has not been on AEW TV again since then, and has not yet been added to the company’s official website roster page.
On today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that the belief is there are potential issues over Andrade’s non-compete clause.
Typically, when WWE talent is released, they have a 90-day clause where they continue to be paid by the company and can’t work anywhere else (or 30 days for NXT contracts).
After Andrade made his AEW return so soon after his WWE exit, the word was that he didn’t have a non-compete clause attached to his departure because of the nature of his firing, but it appears there’s more to the story.
Meltzer said:
“What I’ve been hearing was WWE sent a letter. AEW obviously believed that there was no non-compete.
“There were people who talked to people in WWE who also believed there was no non-compete.
“But WWE apparently… that’s the story. They said that he can’t do (AEW) for 90 days.”
